LOC-LAN
Around 2009, I approached a local church minister, and pitched my idea for a monthly, all-comers welcome, free-of-charge computer games night for youth and young adults. He loved the idea, and allowed us to use his church hall free of charge. Soon after that, "LOC-LAN" ("Lots of Carnage on a Local Area Network") came into being.
Since then the community has grown not just numerically, but in scope - there's now a strong online community that's part of the Facebook group, and engage in online discussions such as "Name a Game" challenges and game reviews posted there. And the LOC-LAN event itself is now a regular part of many young people's monthly calendar.
